INTRODUCTION





Government has taken decision to construct district level cattle pounds for stray cattle. At present there are 20 district level cattle pounds where Approx. 10600 cows are being sheltered. These pounds are being managed by District Animal Welfare Societies under the Chairmanship of respective Deputy Commissioners. These pounds are being strengthened to increase their capacity. All Deputy Directors, Animal Husbandry,Senior Veterinary Officers and Veterinary Officers in the Animal Husbandry Department has been designated as Animal nWelfare Officers in their areas of jurisdiction.

Police department has constituted district level Cow Protection Cells for effective control of cow slaughtering and smuggling. Animal Husbandry department has implemented schemes for development and breed improvement of cows.

Gaushalas in the state were given financial assistance by animal Husbandry Deptt. as per availability of funds under PM-6 scheme.

Different schemes were implemented through Animal Husbandry Deptt. for the welfare, development and breed improvement of cows.

Cases were registered against the perpetrators of cow slaughtering and smuggling by the police department.
